Valentina Matviyenko, Chairman the Federation Council
On behalf of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and on my own behalf, I welcome the organisers, participants and guests of the Tenth International Rail Business Forum 1520 Strategic Partnership.
It is difficult to overestimate the importance of railway transportation in the modern world. In the Russian Federation it is one of the key sectors of the economy. Railway transportation not only ensures the fulfillment of objectives of freight and passenger transportation, which is often the only type of transportation available, but also acts as an integrator for the development and consolidation of trade and economic ties on the Eurasian space. Modern international transport corridors with strong intermodal transportation and logistics centers need to be established and the manufacturing of innovative rolling stock needs to be set up in a very short time in order to take trade and economic cooperation to a new level.
I am confident that the Forum will contribute to the development of coordinated approaches and solutions for all aspects of the development of the country’s railway industry with similar technical operating conditions and offer new business initiatives to the railway transportation market.
I wish you fruitful work and success in implementing your plans.
